pretty heart

Pretty Heart is 20-year old Morgan Holliger out of Ohio, our first artist-to-watch of 2013, who produces soulful electronic glam-pop that’s got our pulse running fast with its fast-paced beat patterns and Morgan’s breathless vocals. Her latest strike Toy, the most outstanding track up till now, was released December 29 and might just be the big breakthrough moment for Pretty Heart. With her 7-track EPHalf Asleep and a noteworthy cover of Ariel Pink’s Alisa, Pretty Heart doesn’t seem like the slow type when it comes to putting new jams out there and we’re excited to see what the new year has to bring for this potentially huge new artist.

IMG_0622DEON might just be that band with that sound you have never heard before. Based in Berlin, this German/English duo consisting of Dominik Deonarain (vocals) and Rob Willis (synths) creates an orgasmic mix of 80s electro and German popA Feuerwerk der Gefühle in its impurest form, DEON is scared, in love, egoistic, perverted and on drugs… Think: Rammstein gone electro-popYes, they might appeal to a rather niche audience, but boy is their music catchy and I love it!

Frohe Weihnachten von DEON! And as a little Christmas present, a free download of their cover of Kante’s “Ich hab’s gesehen”:

And just because I can’t help myself, here are 2 videos of my favourite DEON tracks, “Hedonist” and “Ganz Allein” live at Kater Holzig back in December 2011.

My Dreams is Anders Trentemøller‘s contribution to Record Store Day, released exclusively in the independent record stores participating on April 21. My Dreams is also different from what we know the mighty Trentemøller for, but dope just like the rest. Its riffs are rockier (excuse the obvious alliteration, they get me hooked every time), its vocals are more haunting thanks to the sultry talent of Marie Fisker, and its tempo is slower without lacking the energy. With this cover version of The Gun Club’s 2009 song, Trentemøller took a laidback Blues-Punk song and made it his own completely. His own being a track a whole lot more interesting than the original.

The beautifully directed and edited video features private footage that captures the vibes, emotions and energy of last year’s live tour. And how could we resist a video that combines a banging track and the feel of a fun roadtrip, right?

Time to introduce another promising Berliner band: Freakish Atlantic! On their profile(s) the duo writes that they recorded their debut EP ‘Siren Songs’ “during the rainy summer of 2011 (oh I remember that one…) in Flo´s bedroom under the influence of cheap ice pops while spending most of the time playing ´International Superstar Soccer´ on an old Super Nintendo.” Nice one. Now that we’ve made it through winter, it is time for Freakish Atlantic to bring us some new material. Which they did! Yesterday I was happily surprised on SoundCloud with their first single for a still work-in-progress album. Stream this wonderful little piece of dreamy synth pop called ‘House Of Cards’ below and if you dig it, quickly grab that free download while you can!
