Today has been a horrible hangover day. You know the deal: hanging on the couch, watching series, eating everything you can get your hands on, listening to some music while scrolling up and down your facebook feed which bores you to death… But then this song came on, and it made me feel just a little better. Mellow, lovely, and pretty much describing what I want: “Just Make It Stop”Low is back with a brand new album called The Invisible Way, out March 18 on Sub Pop Records.

IMG_0622DEON might just be that band with that sound you have never heard before. Based in Berlin, this German/English duo consisting of Dominik Deonarain (vocals) and Rob Willis (synths) creates an orgasmic mix of 80s electro and German popA Feuerwerk der Gefühle in its impurest form, DEON is scared, in love, egoistic, perverted and on drugs… Think: Rammstein gone electro-popYes, they might appeal to a rather niche audience, but boy is their music catchy and I love it!

Frohe Weihnachten von DEON! And as a little Christmas present, a free download of their cover of Kante’s “Ich hab’s gesehen”:

And just because I can’t help myself, here are 2 videos of my favourite DEON tracks, “Hedonist” and “Ganz Allein” live at Kater Holzig back in December 2011.

wild yaksTime to let your hair bounce with WILD YAKS! “Last Tears Of The Night” tells us the story of partying, screwing things up and drinking (excessively). Looking back at this when you’re older makes you nostalgic and realise that you just need to enjoy it while you can. Over the years WILD YAKS has broken up a couple of times, band members left and came back, and now that they are together again they’re bringing out the big guns. Youthful indie punk rock from Brooklyn without hesitation.  As Consequence Of Sound wrote: “Never underestimate a band of aging friends with nothing to lose.” Their album “Million Years” is out now, buy it on Amazon.

c2cYou know when you walk down the street with your headphones on and a track like this comes up and you want to burst out into dance, yet you can’t ’cause people would think you’re “weird”. So instead you just nervously jiggle with one hand, slightly wiggle your hips or bob your head with a gigantic smile on your face. Well, whether you pop-lock it, do the jitterbug, put you hands up in the air or dance like you have ants in your pants… anything goes to the latest track of French turntablists C2C “Happy” featuring Derek Martin.

You never feel happy, until you try!

Or maybe at Lido… The sources seem undecided. In any case, it is highly recommended to go! I mean, how often do you get to see Radiohead’s producer Nigel Godrich (also known for his work with Beck and Paul McCartney), and Joey Waronker, who’s drummed for R.E.M. and The Smashing Pumpkins, play live for the feeble ticket price of € 12?!? Besides the big guys, rather unknown Laura Bettinson (a.k.a. FEMME) forms the star of the group as wonderfully fragile yet powerful lead singer.

Ultraísta creates a remarkable mix of eccentric synth pop with an exotic beat and vocals to die for. Have a listen yourself and join us to that gig at Lido or BiNuu! Tickets at Koka36 or Eventim.
